Antique Art Deco 22ct Gold Ruby And Diamond Ring
Aesthetically pleasing and incredibly interesting in manufacture, this gorgeous piece is the epitome of Art Deco craftsmanship.
For those who enjoy antique jewellery, The ‘navette’ ring was at the height of its popularity during the Victorian era, also used to describe a marquise-shaped gemstone (King Louis XV ordered royal jewelers to cut diamonds to resemble the lips of his lover, Marquise de Pompadour.) Literally meaning 'little ship. The style can be quite long, covering the finger up to the first knuckle.
One of the most interesting aspects is that the shank is crafted in 22ct gold while the shoulders are white gold, the pierced, open work top plate in Navette shape, has at some stage of its life or in fact at the time of its manufacture, been rhodium plated which blends perfectly with the white gold shoulders.
Set to centre is a bezel set, sugar loaf natural Ruby, millgraine edging in typical Deco fashion, surrounded by 10, old mine cut diamonds, bead claw set, accentuating the captivating colour of the Ruby.
This elegant piece, boasting a striking presence and timeless beauty, is in very good antique condition and eagerly awaits a new owner to cherish its history and charm.
