Antique 9ct Rose Gold Pearl Turquoise ‘Swallow’ Brooch by Willis and Sons Circa 1910

Collections: Sold Archive

Charming 9ct rose gold brooch by iconic early Australian jewellery firm Willis and Sons.

Modelled from lush 9ct rose gold with symbolic Lily of the Valley - symbolising a ‘return to happiness’ and representing ‘purity, luck and humility’, and in amongst the Lily is a sweet Swallow.

‘Swallow jewellery is steeped in symbolism.  Mating for life, these pieces of jewellery were often given to young couples or exchanged between them on their wedding day.

Given the combination of the Swallow and Lily of the Valley we can only assume this quite poignant piece may well have been given to a young bride on her wedding day.
Hallmarked clearly with Willis and Sons hallmark to outer edge this lovely piece would make a superb wedding gift or add this to your Australian jewellery collection.
