A Special Victorian Treasure

Crisply hallmarked for Chester 1895, this is a charming example of a late Victorian spinner fob and would have originally been worn suspended from a gentleman’s Albert chain, although today it would look equally beautiful worn as a pendant suspended from your favourite chain!

Please note, boxe and chains are for display only unless otherwise stated.

Fully hallmarked for manufacture in Chester, 1895, a rare assay to find in todays collectors market, this beautiful antique 9ct rose gold carnelian and bloodstone spinner fob displays all the wonderful characteristics and craftsmanship associated with late Victorian jewellery.

The fob centres on a substantial circular reversible spinner, traditionally set with carnelian to one side and bloodstone to the reverse, allowing either stone to be displayed simply by rotating the central section within its frame, the spinner moves freely!

Proportioned at a lovely 3.32cm x 2.39cm, and weighing 4.90 grams, it features a particularly lovely ornate upper mount, fashioned in an openwork scrolling design with elegant pierced curves and foliate detailing. The shoulders sweep upward into a decorative leaf-like motif, meeting beneath a polished rounded knop and suspension loop. This sculptural upper section gives the piece a distinctly Victorian architectural quality, while still allowing the spinner itself to remain the focal point.

The warm rose gold beautifully complements the rich reddish-brown tones of the carnelian and the deeper colouring of the bloodstone, creating a wonderfully handsome and tactile antique fob.
