Stunning Antique Australian 9ct Rose Gold Garnet ‘Mizpah’ Heart Pendant By Robert Robertson Circa 1915
Please note, boxes and chains are for display only unless otherwise stated.
This exquisite antique Australian Mizpah heart pendant is a truly special piece — a symbol of love, faith, and remembrance beautifully captured in 9-carat rose gold.
Crafted around 1915 by the renowned early Australian jeweller Robert Robertson, this pendant carries both emotional depth and historical significance.
The word Mizpah comes from the Hebrew Bible, meaning “The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.” During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, Mizpah jewellery was exchanged between loved ones as a promise of connection and protection across distance — a heartfelt token that spoke of devotion and enduring affection.
This pendant embodies that sentiment perfectly. Its heart-shaped design is framed by a highly ornate scroll border, set with two sparkling round faceted garnets and three lustrous faux half-seed pearls, each one delicately placed to enhance its romantic charm. Measuring 3.2 cm by 2.7 cm, it’s the ideal size to wear close to the heart — a piece that feels as meaningful as it looks.
In exceptional condition, almost as though time has stood still, this pendant is a rare survivor of Australia’s early jewellery heritage.
Pieces of this quality and preservation are seldom found today. Whether worn as a sentimental keepsake or added to a fine antique collection, this Mizpah heart is an unforgettable treasure — a piece of history that still speaks of love everlasting.

HISTORY OF ROBERT ROBERTSON 1854- 1877, ROBERT ROBERTSON AND SONS 1877-1921
Robert Robertson founded his jewellery business in 1854 on Collins Street West, Melbourne, at the height of the Victorian gold rush in 1854.
Much of his jewellery was of popular colonial designs. By 1865 Robertson had moved to Little Collins Street where his business flourished.
In the 1870’s he was established in substantial premises at 28 Little Collins Street West.
Robert Robertson junior became a partner in the family business in 1875 and shortly after the firm was listed as Robert Robertson and Sons.
The founder died in 1887, and at this time the business employed over 50 hands.
Known for fine craftsmanship in jewellery, silverware, and timepieces, his work quickly attracted Melbourne’s wealthy elite. Positioned among other prestigious merchants on Collins Street, Robertson’s firm helped establish Melbourne as a centre for luxury jewellery and left a lasting legacy in Australia’s commercial and cultural history.
