A particularly stunning and unusual aesthetic movement bracelet from the Victorian Circa 1880, in ‘Aesthetic or Japanesque’ style.

The Aesthetic Movement in Britain (1860 – 1900) aimed to escape the ugliness and materialism of the Industrial Age, by focusing instead on producing art that was beautiful rather than having a deeper meaning – 'Art for Art's sake'.

The artists and designers in this 'cult of beauty' crafted some of the most sophisticated and sensuously beautiful artworks of the Western tradition and in the process remade the domestic world of the British middle-classes.

Reference: Victoria & Albert Museum

Crafted from silver gilt and modeled as a hinged oval cuff style bracelet with a push down box tongue clasp.  Featuring, in a rectangular panel, a wading bird - Heron - walking amongst reeds and a sweet little unidentifiable bird watching on.

To the sides of this panel is a finely detailed floral garland and the rear of the bangle is plain.

Wide at 2.0cm for its full circumference this rich and lush bangle is the colour of a high carat gold but with out the price tag!
