Antique Victorian 9ct And Red Salmon Coral Graduated Bead Necklace Circa 1880
Revered for centuries across many cultures Coral, particularly the red variety, was believed to hold strong medicinal properties especially for babies and children and it was common to see strands or Coral adoring their necks and wrists.
Also believed to be a talisman to ward off the evil eye these strands were given to children as christening gifts from the Renaissance through to the Victorian era.
This strand of red Salmon Coral dates to the Victorian era circa 1870 and measures a very wearable 40cm.
Natural coral, un-dyed, with all its little organic natural imperfections are seen in the graduated beads which range form the central largest at 8.5mm to the smallest at 4.5mm.
Individually knotted between each bead and clasping with a 9ct rose gold push-in barrel clasp.
Beautiful to wear on its own or layer this beauty with your favourite #neckmess of the day.

Very good to excellent antique condition. No stretching to thread, individually knotted and strong. Clasp works perfectly. Organic imperfections seen to beads as they are natural. No other issues to note.
