The first thing to note about this wonderful double Albert Fob chain is her length…  a full 55.5cm end to end which allows this one to sit quite low on the décolletage! and that doesn't include the extra 7cm drop to the end of the Celtic cross!

The chain is crafted from sterling silver and has the Lion Passant stamped to each and every curblink and weights a very substantial 63 grams.

To the T-bar and one dog clip the makers mark indicates manufacture by ‘Joshua Horton & Son’ of Hatton Garden London, and date letter ‘k’ for manufacture in 1905.

A little later in this watch chain history, a Celtic cross has been added, and it is beautiful.   Stamped with makers mark ‘H&H’ for Hopkins & Hopkins, date letter ‘R” for 1933,  and both the Hibernia official mark of the Dublin Assay Office and the Harped Crown signifying assay in Dublin which has been struck on all Irish silver since 1637.

We can’t but wonder at the length of this one.. was it made for an especially ‘robust’ gentleman? Or did said gentleman have two identical chains which at some stage were joined together?  WE will never know at frankly it doesn’t matter as the result is an exceptional and wearable antique chain.
