Quite a special little ring crafted in Australia during the early 20th century circa 1915 in the Arts & Crafts style.

Hallmarked for 9ct rose gold and makers marks and symbol ascribing this one to W.F.Cole for S. Hoffnung & Co.

The ‘Anvil’ plus ‘H’ are considered to be those of S. Hoffnung and Co, being placed on jewellery wholesaled by them. The latter marks implicated W.F. Cole as the maker”. (Credit page 122 Australian Jewellery gold & Silversmiths Makers & Marks - Cavil, Cocks and Grace).

Centring a solid black oval Opal en cabochon weighing approximately 1.8ct and Gemmological Association of Australia nomenclature type 1, colour type N2.

A fine rope twist border runs around the outside frame and the shoulders are exquisitely modelled as a three leaf motif.

The Opal as a predominately blue/green body colour and exhibits tiny sparkles of blue, green, reds and yellows.

This fine early Australian example would be a wonderful addition to any Opal or Australian jewellery connoisseurs collection.

CONDITION

Very very good antique condition. Hallmarks a clear and legible. Opal is very secure in its setting. Very very slight marks to Opal seen under loupe magnification only, no crazing. Gold is a lovey rosy 9ct hue. Lovely early ring.
