Antique Art Deco Era 18ct White Gold Black Opal Doublet Diamond Ring Circa 1935
This late Art Deco, perhaps early 1940’s, black Opal doublet is one of the most captivating and fiery examples we’ve had the pleasure of offering.
Crafted from 18ct white gold and set to the centre with an Oval plaque Black Opal Doublet which has a neon bright colour play with broad rolling ribbons which exhibit flashes of greens, oranges, blues, and lots of red! ( See video below ).
The Opal doublet is set in micro multi claw style atop a solid buy finely pierced gallery and to either side of the Opal doublet are three small single cut diamonds set in scalloped pretty settings.
Tapered inverted shoulders with micro millgrain edges compliment this pretty ring perfectly and a solid half round shank keeps her secure on the finger.
This ring is mesmerising.. to us it resembles a Northern Territory sunset over the ocean, and perhaps the clever jeweller who made this ring thought so too!
(Opal do not translate well in photos, please look at video below).
What is an Opal Doublet?
A Doublet opal has two layers, the top layer being the natural opal and the bottom layer being black glass, a dark coloured potch (colourless opal), even brown ironstone. Both of these are then joined together seamlessly to form a Doublet Opal.
