A stunningly beautiful antique Victorian ‘REGARD’ opening locket crafted from 9ct gold which has been ‘bloomed’ to give that beautiful higher carat finish, and in this case the soft almost two-toned effect we all adore in antique jewellery. The ‘REGARD’ is un-bloomed and rosy hued to contrast strikingly against the yellow highly detailed background and set in a ‘wrap’ around banner with lovely rope twist borders.

The locket elegantly opens to reveal two compartments, one of which retains its original rim, early blue fabric, and glass, suitable for holding treasured photographs or mementos.  The other compartment also has its early blue fabric but sadly its rim and pane have been lost to time.

To the verso, detailed scrolling engravings embellish the surface, the banner is replicated here too and it incorporates a small un-inscribed cartouche that invites personal inscription, adding to its sentimental value.

Victorian REGARD jewellery is rich in sentimentality, with the term "REGARD" signifying affection and fondness. These pieces were often given as tokens of love, friendship, or remembrance, encapsulating deep emotional bonds. This locket, in its delicate design and personalisable nature, serves not only as a beautiful accessory but also as a heartfelt symbol of the enduring relationships cherished during the Victorian era. Such jewellery allowed wearers to carry their loved ones close to their hearts, both literally and symbolically.
