This breathtaking antique Austrian brooch captures the romantic spirit of the Victorian era like few others. Dating from around 1867–1872, it’s a true piece of Victoriana, crafted in Austria from high-grade 800 silver and finished with exquisite black enamel work.
At its heart sits a delicate, hand-painted winged Cupid, resting his chin thoughtfully on his hand in that classic dreamy pose. The deep, glossy black enamel provides a dramatic backdrop that makes the little Cherub truly glow. Encircling him is an intricate silver and gilt floral wreath, beautifully detailed with scrolling vines, tiny blossoms, and natural half seed pearls that catch the light with a soft, luminous shimmer.
The craftsmanship is outstanding — every fine line, every tiny pearl, and every swirl of the gilt work speaks of the care and artistry that went into creating this piece over 150 years ago. It carries the authentic Austrian hallmarks of the period, confirming its origin and quality.
Despite its age, this brooch remains in very good antique condition with only the gentlest signs of its long and cherished life (please see the full condition report below for complete details).
Whether you’re building a collection of fine Victorian jewellery or simply searching for a truly special piece that feels both timeless and romantic, this little Cupid brooch is something quite magical.

Condition
Good antique condition. A beautifully made piece typical of the era. There is one spot where the enamel appears to have been ‘repaired’, this has been done quite well, it is visible but does not detract from the beauty of this piece, appears professionally repaired ( not a ‘home job’!) - minor marks seen under magnification to black enamel, insignificant.Tip to wing has lost some colour to the enamel, no visible enamel loss. Patina and marks to the verso - we have not over polished this piece. Pin, C clasp and hinges are all original, no repairs and in excellent working condition. No there issues to note.
