These are the kind of earrings that make you pause and smile — a genuinely lovely pair of antique Victorian piqué drops that feel both elegant and full of character!

Long, elegant, andfull of Victorian romance, these piqué earrings are a rare treat for anyone who loves antique handcrafted jewellery with real personality!

Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.

Crafted in 9 carat yellow gold with classic shepherd hook fittings (complete with nice long backs for extra security), they feature long, tapering tortoiseshell obelisk drops. Each side of the four sides are beautifully inlaid with delicate gold piqué work — dainty flowers, leaves, and scrolling foliage that catch the light beautifully. The gold caps at the top add a lovely warm contrast against the deep, rich tortoiseshell.

They have a wonderful face-framing length, measuring a graceful 6 cm drop from the ear, and together they weigh a satisfying 6.89 grams. You can really feel the quality when you hold them.

Dating to the late Victorian period (around 1890–1900), these earrings are becoming increasingly rare to find as a matching pair these days.

One of the sweetest little details is a tiny handmade touch on the bottom of each drop: both earrings feature three delicate gold half-moon inlays. On one earring, the jeweller appears to have started carving a fourth half-moon but stopped — perhaps realising it was one too many and deciding to leave it as a charming little “oops” moment from over a century ago. There is no sign to the other earring of a ‘missing’ half moon! It’s the kind of small imperfection that makes them feel so human and authentic!

Condition

Very good to excellent antique condition. Shepherd hooks are strong, firm and straight.  Gold inlay is all present except for one half moon at the bottom of one earring, the other earring has never had a fourth half moon! - could this have been a ‘mistake’ by the manufacturing jeweller? Therefore a tiny shallow impression where the half moon inlay would’ve been. A mystery!  Mentioning for accuracy only.  A lovely pair of pique earrings!
