This sweet pin was called a fichu pin or a lace pin from the French - ‘Fichu’ for neckerchief, which was a scarf, triangular in shape and worn around the shoulders.  A Fichu pin is therefore a small brooch which secured the scarf at the front.

This lovely example dates to the Georgian era, circa 1820, and is crafted in 15ct yellow gold with a scroll work border surrounding a large natural unheated faceted gem which is either an (unheated Citrine) or a smoky quartz.  A pale, clear shade which almost defies description, in some lighting conditions she almost looks like a very pale (untreated) Amethyst!

Stunningly faceted this large 18 x 15 x 8mm - approx 12ct - gem is miraculously free from abrasions or chips, and the faceting to the verso is as perfect as the front.

A curved original pin and simple C clasp are also present to the rear, keeping this one securely in place.

One condition issue to note, the scrolling surround to one small area has ‘lifted’, however this appears very stable and could be repaired if desired.
