Victorian 15ct Gold Heart Shaped Locket Pendant With Cabochon-Cut Garnets Circa 1860-80

A superb survivor from a time gone by, this stunning mid-late Victorian Heart pendant is simply stunning.
Crafted from 15ct gold which has been further *bloomed over with a rich higher yellow carat, typical and desired in this era, and designed as a puffy type heart with a heart shaped locket to the verso.
The front is deeply chased with a swirling floral pattern and textured accents, and set with four glorious deep red Garnet cabochons in five saw tooth claws typical to this early era. Unusually, above the body of the Heart is a ribbon type Bow also beautifully chased, to which the original notched bale is attached.
The verso is not patterned but simply highly polished gold, and set with a love Heart shaped compartment bearing an original depiction of quite a handsome and refined gentleman of the era.
A large piece measuring a lovely 3cm drop including the bale, in wonderful condition, this piece is a must for the serious jewellery connoisseur.

CONDITION
Very good to excellent antique condition. Stunningly good chasing, still crisp and deep. Garnets are original, no chips or abrasions, all original five ‘saw tooth’ claws to each, well set and secure. No repairs or damage. Gold ‘blooming’ is a rich hue with the appearance of 18 - 22ct, very bright and rich. Original pane to rear - we have not attempted to remove this - if required we suggest asking your regular jeweller - appears removable however. A strikingly beautiful example with no issues to note.
