Antique Australian 9ct Rose Gold ‘Dove Of Peace’ Seed Pearl Brooch By Duggin And Shappeare - Circa 1910

An exceptional piece of antique Australian jewellery, in almost pristine condition, by well known Victorian jewellery firm - Duggin And Shappeare (1896-1932), and fully hallmarked as such.
Designed as the symbolic ‘Dove of Peace’ and crafted from 9ct rose gold, this larger than oft seen piece measures a gloriously large 5cm x 3.5cm.
Studded with an array of natural half seed Pearls - all original - to the body and outstretched wings, with a vibrant round red Garnet cabochon for the eye, and a further three seed Pearls to the olive branch.
Beautifully detailed throughout this symbolic brooch could be easily converted to to pendant if desired with the addition of two small gold loops to wing!
Pieces by Duggin And Shappeare are becoming increasingly hard to source especially in this incredible condition, let alone in this size.. a must have for the serious collector of antique Australian hallmarked jewellery.

CONDITION
Excellent antique condition. All half Seed Pearls are natural, original, with no re-glues or replacements. Garnet eye is original. No chips or nacre loss to Pearls. No repairs or damages. Original C clasp, original Pin - in silver - strong and closes very securely. A fabulous large example.
HISTORY OF DUGGIN & SHAPPERE AND CO.
Duggin, Shappere and Co. established their business in Howey Place, off Little Collins Street in Melbourne in 1896. It was one of the major jewellery manufacturers operating in Australian in the first quarter of the 20th century. Producing an extensive range of gold jewellery for the increasing demand from the ever growing Australian population. Their use of seed pearls is well known in their original designs of both pendants and brooches.
Their trademark hallmark featuring an ‘Anchor’ was used in conjunction with the guarantee marks of the Manufacturing Jewellers’ Association of Victoria, seen here on this remarkable original design.
Moving premises several times the settled into their final premises at 343 Little Collins Street where they continued until 1932.
