Vintage Retro French 18ct Rose Gold Diamond And Ruby Tank Ring Circa 1940’s
An absolutely fabulous Retro era 1940’s ‘Tank’ ring crafted in France and stamped with the Eagle Head 18ct gold purity mark.
Finely crafted from lush 18ct rosy hued gold this substantial ring weighs a lovely 6.85 grams, and we can attest if feels simply sublime once on the finger.
Strong curvaceous geometric lines and a bold profile combined perfectly with the central round gem set motif which features a stunning pinky/red oval faceted Ruby to a halo surround of eight sparkling round brilliant-cut diamonds which combined weigh approximately 0.24ct.
Striking from every angle this finger flattering ring is a testament to the design aesthetics of the Retro era, French in manufacture and therefore simply superb… a must have for the discerning jewellery collector.
“Tank rings, popular during the Retro jewellery era (approximately 1935 to 1950), are distinctive for their bold, geometric designs and often feature a wide band with a prominent, raised center. The name "Tank ring" is believed to derive from the resemblance of the ring's shape to the silhouette of a tank, particularly the armored vehicles used during World War II.
This era saw a shift in design aesthetics, influenced by the war and the subsequent desire for more robust and practical jewellery. Tank rings often incorporated materials like gold, platinum, and sometimes featured colourful gemstones, reflecting a sense of strength and durability. Their design was not only a fashion statement but also a symbol of resilience during a tumultuous time in history.
Overall, Tank rings represent a unique blend of artistry and historical context, making them a cherished collectible in vintage jewellery”.
