Quite the conversation starter, this impressive ring is what we would describe as Retro meets Modernist!

Crafted from 9ct yellow gold and weighing a very substantial 13 grams one certainly knows this chic beauty is on the finger.

Centred with a black Star Diopside measuring approximately 1.2cm round which displays a chatoyancy resulting in a four-rayed whitish asterism in the light.

Set deep in the solid setting to help protect it from bumps and knocks this mesmerising stone attracts the gaze of not only the wearer but everyone who happens to see her!

This is one of those rings that goes with almost any outfit.. it veritably screams style and Retro chic, and we all know that ‘look’ is so on trend right now!

WHAT IS BLACK STAR DIOPSIDE?

Black Star Diopside is a type of calcium magnesium silicate mineral. Displaying an optical ‘chatoyant’ phenomenon - a star-like pattern when cut in cabochon form and exposed to light, due to its needle-like inclusions.

The name “diopside” finds its origins from the Greek word for “double vision” and is derived from the two-tone coloration that often appears in these stones.
The black star variety was discovered during a mining expedition near Yekaterinburg in Russia’s Ural Mountains during the 19th century.  Sometimes called the ‘Black Star Of India’.

Star diopside has a very unique asterism (it can also display a ‘cats eye chatoyancy) compared to other types of chatoyant star gemstones It exhibits only four rays, most star gemstones display a sis-ray asterism but star diopsides rays are a result of its binary symmetry, in addition the star diopside rays are crooked and wavy because they are not at 90° angles.
