Antique Georgian Regency 15ct Rose Gold And Rock Crystal ‘Heart’ Locket Circa 1780-1800
Please note, chains are for display only unless otherwise stated.
Crafted during the 18th century circa 1780, this wonderful piece of history is a must for the serious Georgian jewellery collector or anyone who appreciates craftsmanship of jewellers of days gone by…
Crafted from 15ct rose gold, and designed as a ‘Heart’ shaped opening locket with two incredible and original faceted (front pane is faceted, rear pane is un-faceted) rock crystal windows, both in incredible condition for their 220 plus years of age.
Rock crystal is in fact another name for a variety of clear transparent quartz known for its hardness and resistance to scratching, and used for early pieces such as this.
The rock crystal windows are set in cut down settings typical of the Georgian era, notches to both points of the Heart for ease of opening and of course hinged to the top.
Measuring a sweet size, with fixed top loop, 2.3cm x 1.4cm ( top round jump ring is a later addition and 9ct gold ).
The inside will accommodate a tiny personal momento … perhaps a photo, or some sentimental treasured tiny gemstones or even dried flowers? Or leave her as is.. the clear rock crystal is beautiful as is!
A similar example can be seen in ‘Georgian Jewellery’ - Olivia Redington Dawes, Olivia Collins - page 158. See accompanying photo.
