Antique Edwardian 9ct Rose (And Yellow) Gold Aquamarine And Seed Pearl Pendant Necklace Circa 1905-1910 By Joseph Lawrence 1894-1980’s
An exceptional piece by one of our iconic and early Australian jewellers, Joseph Lawrence of Melbourne.
Joseph Lawrence was a manufacturing jeweller, the company was one of the largest manufacturers of solid handmade jewellery in Australia throughout the first half of the 20th century.
Crafted during the Edwardian era when Lavaliere drop pendant necklaces were at the height of popularity, this feminine and exquisitely pretty necklace features a central bow-like motif set with and array of pear-cut natural Aquamarines (tested) a round-cut Aquamarine and natural half seed pearls.
Suspended below in articulated fashion is further pear-cut Aqua with dainty seed pearl detailing.
A strong and beautifully made chain suspends the pendant drop - the chain is more a yellow gold in hue, however we believe this to be original as there is no sign of replacement - and the closure is the original tubular push-in clasp also stamped for 9ct gold.
The verso of the pendant drop is hallmarked crisply and clearly with J Lawrence hallmark of a ‘Knot’ and 9 for 9ct and the M.J.A. of Victorian guarantee mark of a Wheatsheaf.
Immaculate in condition (read the condition report below), this strikingly pretty piece of early Australian history is a collectors, and jewellery connoisseurs, dream.

Excellent antique condition. No chips or abrasions to Aquamarines, all claws are original and secure. All half seed pearls are original, natural, and no re-glues. Chain is lovely, beautifully made, strong with no thinning or wear to links. Clasp is original, stamped 9ct, and works perfectly. Hallmarks for A lovely piece of antique Australian jewellery with no issues to note.
