Dating to the early 20th century, circa 1910, this utterly charming ‘lavaliere’ pendant necklace was crafted by William Drummond And Co. of Melbourne Australia.

Crafted from 15ct yellow gold and designed as lavaliere (or lavalier or lavallière) named after Louse Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, Duchess de La Vallière (1644-1710) mistress of Louis XIV.

A particularly pretty example with the surmount designed as an open work bow, set with an array of half seed Pearls, suspending a bar edged drop terminating in a lovely daisy cluster also set with half Pearls.

The chain is 15ct yellow gold, beautifully crafted and securing with an early but probably a replacement tubular 9ct gold clasp.

Measuring a very pleasing 42cm neck circumference this early piece of Australian history is truly a delight.
