Utterly charming brooch dating to around he turn of the last century circa 1900 by Australian jewellery firm Duggin and Shappere - Melbourne.

Styled as a crescent and star moon with floral accents all of which is set with natural half seed Pearls and the brooch itself is 15ct rose gold which has been ‘bloomed’ to the front to give a matte yellow gold finish.

Hallmarked very crisply for Duggin and Shappere with their trademark hallmarks of vertical anchor, 15 and the hanging fleece guarantee mark of the M.J.A of Victoria.
Celestial jewellery has and is continuing a resurgence in popularity and this fine piece would be an asset to any jewellery enthusiasts collection.

CONDITION
Very good antique condition.  Original gold pin and C claps to verso.  No dents or repairs. Two Pearls may be replacements, much more noticeable in photos than to the naked eye.  Lovely piece.

History of Duggin and Shappere

Duggin, Shappere and Co. established their business in Howey Place, off Little Collins Street in Melbourne in 1896.  It was one of the major jewellery manufacturers operating in Australian in the first quarter of the 20th century. Producing an extensive range of gold jewellery for the increasing demand from the ever growing Australian population.  Their use of seed pearls is well known in their original designs of both pendants and brooches.

Their trademark hallmark featuring an ‘Anchor’ was used in conjunction with the guarantee marks of the Manufacturing Jewellers’ Association of Victoria, seen here on this remarkable original design.

Moving premises several times the settled into their final premises at 343 Little Collins Street where they continued until 1932.
