Superb Georgian half-hoop set with five foil backed black dot paste stones, set in traditional cut down collet settings.

Constructed all by hand around 200 years ago ‘paste’ stones, as they are commonly, called are actually a lead glass with a high refractive index which were used to imitate diamonds and backed with foil and in this case also painted with a little black dot to the underside of the stone to also imitate the cullet of a diamond.

With the paste stones set in silver as was the custom of the day and bifurcated shoulders to a grooved plain band which is unmarked but tests to around 15ct.

This ring is delightful, and in very good condition given its age, with only minor abrasions to stones.
