Glorious and finely made Late Victorian turn of the century 15ct yellow gold combination pendant / brooch.

It features two intense deep purple Amethysts of 'Siberian' quality, which exhibit intense dark pink/red flashes under sun or candle light.  The focal amethyst is 14 claw set and measures 7mm x 5mm, the pear shape drop amethyst is 13 claw set and measures 8mm x 4mm.

Surrounding the Amethysts in superbly curved gold work are a total of 36 white natural seed pearls of varying sizes which perfectly compliment the vivid royal purple of the Amethysts.

This is a quality piece, solidly made by skilled goldsmith of the era, the rear of the pendant is just as beautifully rendered and features a roll over 'C' clasp and gold pin.

History of Amethysts
Value for amethysts depends almost entirely on color. Siberian mines once produced the world’s finest stones.  They featured a particularly rich purple color that glowed with red and blue flashes. Today the term “Siberian” no longer refers to origins. Instead, this is now a trade and grade term referring to colors similar to those of the amethysts mined in Siberia. (Credit gemsociety.org).
