Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.

A simply charming vintage ring channeling the vibe of the much earlier Art Nouveau era, however it was still crafted over half a century ago in 1967!

This ring displays a refined style and elegance and is crafted from 9ct yellow gold, showcasing naturalistic floral motifs, a ‘rub-over’ wide buckle (with no catchy prong to snag or lift!), and two lush red faceted natural Garnets to add a pop of colour to the bright 9ct yellow gold. Notably this rings appearance is of a ‘higher’ carat gold, it is quite yellow and lush, more like the hue seen in 18ct gold!

Designed as a quite wide ring - 1.2cm at the widest buckle area - with wide shoulders that flow to a slightly tapered rear shank for comfort, and importantly this one sits smooth and low on the finger making it perfect for everyday wear.

In excellent condition this charmer is fully hallmarked with crisp hallmarks for Charles Lyster & Sons, assay in Birmingham and date letter stamped for 1967.

A piece of jewellery that seamlessly blends style, wearability and a combination of eras to perfection!

HISTORY OF CHARLES LYSTER & SON (S)

Charles Lyster (born around 1814) initially worked as a manufacturer of various items, including those made of tortoiseshell, pearl, and ivory. He later transitioned to jewellery production, specialising in items like card cases and cigar cases.

In the 1849 edition of the "History and General Directory of the Borough of Birmingham" he was recorded as a manufacturer of tortoiseshell tea caddies, workboxes, inkstands, pearl and ivory card, cigar and spectacle cases, ladies companions. Samuel Lyster, Charles's son, continued the business, which became known as Charles Lyster and Sons.

The company registered silver hallmarks with both Chester and the Birmingham Assay office. They produced a range of items, including small silver pieces and jewellery featuring gemstones like peridot and garnet.

His only son to survive him Samuel Lyster carried on the family business of Charles Lyster and Sons which was granted a silver Hallmark by firstly Chester, then the Birmingham Assay office. The silver smiths produced mainly small items such as vesta, card and cigar cases. Samuel himself, seems to have only one son, Frederick Charles survive him, and very little silver appears to have been produced after Frederick's retirement sometime after the 1911 census.

Their primary production likely ended in the 1930s following Frederick Charles Lyster’s retirement, though some items with their hallmark appear as late as the 1970s, possibly indicating limited activity or hallmark reuse.
