Superb Antique Victorian Domed Banded Agate Cross Necklace Circa 1860
An impressive and very substantial piece of high Victorian jewellery which looks, and feels, incredible when worn.
Circa 1860 this fabulous piece is set with seventeen graduated banded agates to the collar component, ranging in size from 1.4cm (the smallest) to a largest at 1.8cm, and to the large cross a further six Agates. All the Agates are incredibly well matched and oriented as such to appears uniform.
Of important note, the Agates are set in closed backed gilt metal settings typical of the era, and… these closed backed settings have created a ‘glow’ which appears almost like a ‘cats eye’ phenomenon.. which rolls across the surface of every single banded Agate, the effect and beauty is quite outstanding.
Fastening with its original hook and eye closure which keeps this hefty - 93 grams - piece of Victorian jewellery secure around the neck when worn.
The attention to detail in the setting, and choice, of each and every banded Agate is glorious…
These pieces of mid-Victoriana present rarely to the market, and we are thrilled to offer such a superb and wearable piece.
