Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Fancy Albert Chain 58.3 Grams Circa 1890

Laybys welcome! Contact Us today to secure your dream piece.
Fancy double fetter link and faceted belcher link Albert chain dating to around 1890.

This heavy and long example began its life as two separate but almost identical Albert chains as there is one Sterling dog clip and one round solid and secure sterling link joining the two half way around the chain.

With the most beautiful and ornate fancy fetter links interspersed with also fancy faceted belcher links and T-Bar.
The subtle difference in the two chains is almost imperceptible and cannot be noticed when worn.

Quite unusual to find an antique watch chain in this length, it really makes a statement, however if desired this one could perhaps be re-modelled into a necklace and a matching bracelet with the easy addition of an extra clasp of padlock.
Please note the dog-clip and jump ring are close to the T-bar and will sit to the front of the necklace not to the back of the neck.

History of Albert Chains

Albert chains are usually made of silver or gold,  and were worn as a watch chain in the 19th century. The” T” bar was used to attach the chain to a button hole in a waistcoat, while the other end is fitted with a swivel hook to attach the watch.
Sometimes there was a small length of chain joined to the end with the "T" bar, to which a fob, seal or a charm was attached.
