Antique Victorian 18ct Gold ‘Anchor’ Locket Circa 1890
Both sides of the locket are ornately embellished, the front bears a symbolic Anchor with a ships rope encircling it fully. The back shows a detailed floral design and a cartouche inscribed with the simple and poignant devotional - ‘A to B’.
Crafted in 18ct gold which has been further ‘bloomed’ or ‘coloured’ (an old English term for a higher carat finish to the outside of a piece) giving this sentimental piece of antique jewellery a rich and buttery high(er) carat gold hue.
“The anchor symbolizes hope, steadfastness, calm and composure. It also can symbolise security in one or more uncertain experiences of life, such as sea voyages, one's fate after death, and the vagaries of fortune”.
