Antique Australian 9ct Rose Gold Seed Pearl Crucifix By H Simonsen Circa 1905

Crafted in the early days of the 20th century circa 1905 this lovely 9ct rose gold crucifix has been fire gilded over rose gold giving the front a matte yellow gold colour.

Similar to the ‘blooming’ technique that was a popular process in the late Victorian era into the early 20th century which gave a ‘higher’ carat appearance to jewellery pieces.

An applied Anchor motif set with natural half seed pearls with is resemblance to the crucifix is also a symbol representing salvation, steadfast belief and hope and faith.
Hallmarked to the verso with H Simonsens’ hallmark, 9 and the M.J.A guarantee mark of a ‘wheat sheaf’ for 9ct gold.

History of Johnson and Simonsen

Established in Melbourne 1895 the manufacturing firm of Johnson and Simonsen became one of the major jewellery manufacturers in Melbourne.   Their hallmark was a ’Square and Compass” used in conjunction with the guarantee marks of the M.J.A. of Victoria.

CONDITION
Very good antique condition.  Pearls are all original and no re-gluing.  No dents or damage to front, two very tiny superficial impressions and very minor marks to verso, noting for accuracy only.
