A beautiful survivor from the Edwardian era, combining warm antique rose gold, romantic symbolism and exceptionally well-preserved craftsmanship — and all the more desirable with its identifiable Coley Brothers provenance and wonderfully crisp 1906 Birmingham hallmarks.

A truly charming antique Edwardian 9ct rose gold ‘Heart’ motif ring by Coley Brothers, beautifully crafted and fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1906.
Dating to the height of the Edwardian era, this gorgeous wide band features an exceptionally pretty heart and scrolling foliate motif, intricately engraved around the exterior of the ring.
At the centre of the design are beautifully defined polished hearts, surrounded by delicate scrolling foliage and finely textured detailing that creates a wonderful contrast against the warm rose-gold ground.
Particularly lovely is the remarkably crisp condition of the engraving. Despite being approximately 120 years old, the decorative work remains beautifully sharp and well defined, allowing the intricate pattern and fine detailing to be appreciated just as intended. The ring has a wonderfully romantic character, with the heart motif making it particularly special as a sentimental piece; these early patterned rings were traditionally worn as wedding rings; however, they are prized today for their beauty, fine detail and collectibility.
Crafted in warm 9ct rose gold, the band measures approximately 8.65mm wide and has a lovely substantial appearance across the finger while weighing 3.32 grams.
The interior retains crisp and clearly defined hallmarks for Birmingham, 1906, together with the CyBs maker's mark for Coley Brothers, a Birmingham jewellery manufacturer particularly known for its rings.
At some point very early in its life, the ring has undergone an exceptionally well-executed resize. Great care was clearly taken when carrying out the work, with the exterior decorative pattern remaining remarkably uninterrupted and the alteration difficult to detect from the outside, with the faintest join visible under close scrutiny. The ring is ever so slightly oval given the resize, noted for accuracy only. A small area of colour variation can be seen to the inside of the band at the historic sizing join, mentioned purely for accuracy and entirely consistent with this old alteration.

Condition
Very very good antique condition. The pattern is in remarkably crisp condition, with no wear to the motifs. As mentioned, there has been a resize (down) executed neatly and sympathetically, with only a faint resize join seen under close observation, preserving the surrounding pattern.
