A superb 198 year old ring fully hallmarked for manufacture in London 1826, designed as a mourning ring commemorating the passing for a gentleman ‘John Milnes Waraker’ in 1826.

Crafted from 18ct yellow gold and black enamel and, we believe highly unusual, given its plain, and very elegant design, enabling this one to be worn amongst your antique rings for an antique but also contemporary look.

Beautifully hallmarked to the inside of the band with the full series of hallmarks for London, Sovereigns head duty mark required to be used to denote the payment of duty by the silversmith to the Crown between 1784 until 1890, makers mark and ‘l’ denoting manufacture in 1826.

Also inscribed in old cursive is the devotional - ‘John Milnes Warner died Oct 1826 in the 46 year of his age’.

We could find little information on Mr Waraker however we know via an excerpt of his Will in the national archives UK that he was a straw hat maker in Fleet Street in the city on London.
