This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver photo locket, dating from around 1880–1890, is a substantial and deeply sentimental piece of history. Crafted in solid Sterling Silver, it opens to reveal two generous compartments, each protected by original glass panes and delicate rims.

A beautiful, heirloom-quality treasure that opens beautifully and tells a quiet story of love and memory from over 130 years ago!

Please note, boxes and chains are for display only unless otherwise stated.

One compartment face showcases a beautifully engraved garland of flowers and foliage surrounding a flowing ribbon banner delicately inscribed with the name “Nellie”. The reverse features highly stylised engraving in a graceful banner motifs, framed by intricate perimeter detailing. Both sides display the fine hand-engraving typical of the best Victorian jewellery.

Inside, one compartment still holds its original woven hairwork in the classic Prince of Wales feather style — a touching Victorian tradition where locks of a loved one’s hair were intricately braided and preserved as a personal memento of affection, friendship, or remembrance. We know not everyone feels comfortable with antique hairwork, so it can be gently removed if you prefer, allowing you to insert your own photographs or meaningful keepsakes instead.

This locket has a lovely weight and presence, measuring 5.5 cm by 3.4 cm and weighing a solid 20.7 grams, so it feels special the moment you hold it. Whether you’re honouring your own connection to the name Nellie (perhaps a grandmother, mother, sister, or dear friend or even a pet!), or simply appreciate its romantic Victorian charm, this double-sided locket makes a wonderful wearable piece of the past.
