Antique ‘Gold Filled’ - 10% Gold, Slide Muff/ Long Chain - Circa 1900-1910
This exquisite antique chain is a true treasure from the late Victorian to early Edwardian era, offering both elegance and versatility.
Crafted in gold-filled metal with 10% gold content (which is required to be at least 10ct gold as mandated(10k) by consumer protection agencies like the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC)), this long muff chain—sometimes referred to as a muff chain—captures the timeless charm of 19th to early 20th century jewellery design.
Measuring an impressive 120 cm in length, the chain can be styled in multiple ways: worn long and elegant, doubled for a layered effect, or used to support a pendant, locket, or charm.
Its standout feature is the beautifully detailed oval slide, adorned with faux pearls and ornate Victorian-style embellishments. The slide moves freely along the chain, allowing for adjustable styling.
The chain secures with a fully functional dog clip clasp, stamped with the mark, we believe for E. Ira & Co., a respected American jewellery company active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The clasp is also stamped “10%”, confirming its gold-filled composition, where one-tenth of the total weight is solid gold.
This antique chain is more than just a piece of jewellery—it’s a wearable piece of history. Its craftsmanship, detailing, and versatility make it a standout accessory for collectors and lovers of fine antique jewellery.
***Gold-filled items must use gold that is a minimum of 10K because it is a regulatory requirement to ensure a significant layer of real gold is applied to the base metal. This definition, mandated by consumer protection agencies like the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), ensures the item has a substantial amount of gold. The FTC establishes that the term "gold-filled" can only be applied to items with a minimum gold content of 10K.
