An all original and simply fabulous pair of Georgian earrings dating to 1780-1800.

Crafted from gold which is testing to around 10-11ct to the ‘back to front’ hinged lever fittings and top loops to the main body of the earrings, and Sterling silver typical of the day.

Designed as ‘day and night’ earrings, they feature the top dormeuse component with a high tulip setting each containing a charming old rough cut diamond, and suspended below the main body of the earring set with an array of similarly cut diamonds (and one sapphire!), which dance and sway with every movements.

The hinged fittings are ‘back to front’ also typical of the day meaning they close to the front of the ear, easy to use and very secure on the ear.

A long drop of 4.5cm in length which frame the face beautifully and are are make quite the impressive statement when worn.

Of note is the use of the rough cut diamonds … during the Georgian era jewellers worked by candle or lamp light and brilliant-cut machine cut diamonds simply didn’t exist until some time later, these diamonds show ‘colour’, some a pale pink which would be natural, the jewellers simply used what was on-hand at the time.

One gemstone shows a yellow hue and this has been tested as a Sapphire.. but shows  no evidence of being a replacement!

These ‘coloured’ gemstones are appearing more noticeable in the photos, however to the naked eye the difference is almost imperceptible.

CONDITION
Very very good antique Georgian condition.  Hinged back to front fittings work perfectly.  Diamonds are rough-cut or macle diamonds, various sizes, shapes and colours, however to the naked eye these variations in colours are imperceptible .. the camera/lens picks these variations up more than the eye.  A slight reinforcement to the underside of one earring central drop to the verso only, mentioning for accuracy, stable and secure, this work would have been done historically not recently.  A stunning pair of early 19th century earrings.
