A wonderful ring by one of our well known early Australian jewellery firm - W J Coote & Sons - founded in 1904 by William Coote. William was the brother of Edmund Coote and partnered with William Angus to create Angus & Coote in 1895, a company that would become one of Australia's most prominent jewellery businesses.

Crafted from 18ct yellow gold and Platinum, this superb ring dates to the late Art Deco period, perhaps into the early 1940’s, and features impeccable style and typical excellent craftsmanship we expect from our Australian jewellers.

Featuring a square top plate showcasing four lovely old Mine-cut diamonds, all Platinum set, to stepped down shoulders which are also set with a further four old Mine-cut diamonds to each.

The gallery setting equally beautiful, befitting a ring of this quality.. scroll work beneath the swept up diamond shoulders, and ornate openwork Platinum beneath the top plate.

A solid and thick 18ct gold shank keeps this beauty firmly on the finger.

Stamped crisply inside the shank with W J Coote (and 18ct), this ring sits beautifully with your favourite diamond studded eternity ring(s) or wedding style bands.

HISTORY OF W J COOTE & SONS

W.J. Coote & Sons was a family-owned Australian jewellery business, founded by William John Coote in 1904 in Sydney. It was closely linked to the more well-known jewellery firm, Angus & Coote, which was founded by William's brother, Edmund Coote, with William Angus. The business, W.J. Coote & Sons, eventually closed its doors in Bathurst in 2017 after a long history in the jewellery trade.

William John Coote established W.J. Coote & Sons in 1904, specialising in watchmaking and jewellery. His brother, Edmund Coote, partnered with William Angus to create Angus & Coote in 1895, a company that would become one of Australia's most prominent jewellery businesses.

Angus & Coote expanded rapidly, becoming a major force in the Australian jewellery market. After Angus's death in 1902, Edmund Coote became the sole proprietor. By 1918, their showrooms were a prominent feature of George Street in Sydney.  W.J. Coote & Sons also grew, with stores in Sydney and Newcastle, in addition to the Bathurst location.

The Bathurst store of W.J. Coote & Sons closed in 2017, marking the end of the family's legacy in the jeweller business. The closure followed the retirement of Sam and Ilona Coote, who had owned the Bathurst store. While W.J. Coote & Sons is no longer in operation, its connection to Angus & Coote, and the Coote family's long history in the Australian jewellery industry, remains a significant part of the country's retail history.
