A fine pair of long drop, face framing, Victorian Etruscan revival earrings dating to the late 19th century.

Crafted from 9ct gold which has been beautifully *bloomed to give a rich higher carat yellow gold matte appearance, and designed with long shepherd hook fittings for pierced ears.

Articulated from the top engraved section to an inverted V shaped scalloped edged section to a circular motif with rope-work edging and applied detailing which is set with two oval faceted Garnets.
Suspending below also in articulated fashion is a stunning pendeloqué drop which dances beautifully with movement.

A face framing long drop of 6cm, elegant and refined, these earrings are a must for the Victorian jewellery connoisseur.

HISTORY OF BLOOMING

Blooming, a popular finishing technique for karat gold jewelry from 1870 to 1890, was first documented in 1853. The means for creating a bloom finish involved dipping a karat into a boiling mixture of hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid), saltpeter (potassium nitrate), salt and water. This process burned off any alloys on the surface resulting in an alloy-free, thin layer of soft, pure gold on the item.
