Antique Victorian 14ct Yellow Gold Tortoiseshell Earrings
Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.
These elegant antique earrings date to the late Victorian to Edwardian period, circa 1890–1915, and beautifully capture the refined taste of the era.
Crafted in 14ct yellow gold and set with hand‑carved natural Tortoiseshell, they offer a graceful balance of warm materials, lightness, and understated sophistication.
Designed to drop from the ear, the earrings measure 4.1 cm in length, creating a flattering, face‑framing silhouette. The gentle articulation allows them to sway beautifully with every movement, adding softness and life when worn.
Each earring is set with a shield‑shaped piece of carved Tortoiseshell, polished to a deep, rich brown and alive with the natural striations and colour variations so characteristic of this organic medium.
The Tortoiseshell shields are neatly framed in simple gold bezel mounts, and are suspended from the original shepherd hooks.
These earrings embody the quiet elegance of late Victorian and Edwardian jewellery, a time when natural materials and refined craftsmanship were at their height.
Increasingly scarce due to the later restrictions surrounding Tortoiseshell, they make a wonderful choice for the antique jewellery collector or anyone drawn to distinctive, historically rich pieces that wear as beautifully today as they did over a century ago.
