This antique Edwardian 9-carat rose gold and silver Masonic ball pendant is a truly fascinating and beautifully crafted piece of jewellery — full of history, symbolism, and mechanical charm.

Weighing a substantial 8.15 grams, it feels wonderfully solid in the hand and is an excellent example of the intricate Masonic globes made during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

At first glance, it appears as a smooth, lustrous rose gold orb, glowing with the soft warmth characteristic of antique gold. But when releasing the four arms the sphere unfolds to reveal pyramid shaped panels engraved with Masonic symbols and extends to form a cross-shaped design.
The interior gleams with a delicate gold wash- over silver - traditional in these pieces.

‘These ingenious Masonic ball pendants were originally designed as secret symbols of fraternity and faith. When closed, the sphere represented unity and wholeness; when opened, the cross revealed the deeper spiritual and moral teachings of Freemasonry. Each engraved panel carries its own meaning — from the compass and square to the all-seeing eye — forming a miniature world of Masonic iconography’.

This example is in excellent condition, with all hinges working smoothly and the arms snapping shut securely. It retains its original oval bale, perfect for wearing on a chain as a pendant or even adding to a charm bracelet for a touch of antique intrigue.

Measuring 1.7 cm in diameter when closed and extending to a visually striking approximately 5 cm x 3 cm when open, this is both a conversation piece and a wearable work of art.

A superb piece for collectors of Masonic jewellery or anyone who appreciates the craftsmanship and symbolism of fine antique design — elegant, mysterious, and endlessly fascinating.
