Amazing Italian Mid 20th Century Antique Revival 10ct Yellow Gold Sapphire And Diamond Ring
Truly one of a kind!
Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.
This ring really is something special. Handcrafted in Italy during the 1940s to 1960s, it’s a beautiful example of the antique revival style that was so popular in Rome at the time. Rome has always been a beating heart for goldsmithing — with a tradition going back centuries — and in the mid-20th century, skilled artisans were still drawing inspiration from the great classical and Renaissance pieces of the past, creating romantic, intricate jewellery that felt both timeless and fresh.
At the centre sits a blue round cut Sapphire held in a classic yellow gold cut-down collet setting. It’s surrounded by an ornate oval cluster of diamonds — a lovely mix of rose cuts and macle cuts — all set in silver with ornate antique-style openwork reminiscent of a much earlier era. The scrolled shoulders are wonderfully detailed, leading down to a fully engraved shank that adds even more character.
This is a substantial ring (it weighs a solid 8.4 grams) yet it wears comfortably with a relatively low profile of about 8mm. It measures roughly 2.2cm x 1.9cm across the top, so it has real presence on the finger without being overpowering.
You can see the quality in every detail, right down to the ‘ROMA’ (for manufacture in Rome) and RAFF’ maker’s mark — a lovely personal touch that tells us it came from one of Rome’s skilled workshops.
