A very special piece of antique Australian jewellery history, crafted by renowned early Australian jeweller, Aronson and Co., 1902-1947), and one with strong collector appeal — beautiful worn as a statement pendant, but equally compelling simply as an object in its own right. Please note, boxes and chains are for display only unless otherwise stated.
A particularly beautiful and evocative piece of early Australian jewellery, this antique crucifix by Aronson & Co. dates to circa 1900 and is wonderfully representative of the romantic floral ornamentation favoured around the turn of the century.
Crafted in 9ct rose gold, the surface has been gently bloomed, creating that distinctive and highly attractive blend of soft rosy and warm yellow-gold hues. The contrast is especially lovely across the broad, clean lines of the cross, giving the piece a richness and depth that changes subtly as it catches the light.
Applied across the face of the crucifix is an elegant raised floral sprig, its elongated leaves set with delicate faux half seed pearls — a material very typically used during this period — while three vivid red faceted paste stones, resembling garnets, form petite flower-head accents. The combination of pearl, ruby-red colour and softly bloomed gold gives the piece a wonderfully romantic appearance without detracting from the strong architectural form of the cross itself.
The crucifix is particularly striking in scale. Measuring an impressive 4.0cm x 2.35cm, it has a substantial presence while remaining refined and beautifully proportioned. The broad gold cross creates a bold backdrop for the finer botanical decoration, with the raised sprig lending the piece an almost three-dimensional quality when viewed from different angles.
Considering its age of well over a century, it presents in really lovely antique condition, with the overall form remaining crisp, attractive and remarkably well preserved. The applied decoration retains wonderful definition, and the combination of the warm gold, creamy seed pearls and rich red stones gives it enormous character.

Condition
Presenting in really lovely antique condition, particularly considering its age of over 120 years. The applied floral decoration remains beautifully defined, with the seed pearls and red paste stones retaining wonderful visual impact. There is a very small, superficial mark to the lower edge of the crucifix, noted purely for accuracy. A beautifully preserved and very attractive example of early Australian jewellery.
