Vintage/Antique Sterling Silver Amethyst ‘Easter Egg’ Charm-Pendant
“Around the 1890’s the tradition beckon amongst the affluent society to present a girl with an egg pendant every year before Easter. The egg would then be worn on a necklace from Easter Sunday to Ascension Day.
The growing collection of eggs chronicled the lift of the girl until the day of her wedding. Beyond the marriage a separate string on the necklace was attached and her partner would then present another effort every year documenting their new life tighter”.
This pretty Amethyst ‘egg’ measures 1.5cm x 1.2cm and is speckled with natural amethyst feather type inclusions throughout which catch the light and sparkle!
A simple (and original) Sterling silver small oval bale with stamps we cannot identify and another larger bale - new - which will accommodate a larger gauge chain.
