A superb piece manufactured by the esteemed early Australia jewellery firm of Willis and Sons and hallmarked beautifully as such, and, of special interest, also hallmarked for William Drummond who in this case would have been the retailer of this historic piece of jewellery.  Unusual to find a ‘pair’ of Australian hallmarks by not one, but two of our early Australian jewellery firms.

Immaculately crafted from bright and lush 15ct yellow, this piece dates to around the late 19th to early 20th century, and is designed to be worn both as a pendant and a brooch if desired with an articulated Pearl set bale which can be hidden when required.
Resplendent throughout with natural half seed Pearls all of which are original with no re-setting or replacements.

Celestial in style these popular designs were adored by the Victorians following the appearance of Halleys comet and were commissioned in abundance along with crescent moons and the like.

Pop this beauty on your favourite lapel or wear her as a pendant either on your favourite chain or perhaps as a choker on a lush black velvet ribbon, this superb piece of antique Australian jewellery needs to be adored and admired once again!

HISTORY OF WILLIAM DRUMMOND AND CO. 1885 - 2002
(Formerly Brush and Drummond 1873-1884)

Considered by many to be the premier jewellery house of Melbourne during the Victorian era and into the 20th century, their origins beginning with the partnership between Samuel Brush and William Drummond in 1873.

William Drummond had arrived in Melbourne in 1860. Previously, Brushy had been in partnership with William MacDonnnell in Sydney, and in Melbourne.

In 1867 the Sydney firm cam under the control of MacDonnell while Bruch took over the Melbourne business. Presumably Drummond joined with Brush during these changes, the firm becoming Brush And Drummond in 1873.

When Brush died in 1884 William Drummond became the sole proprietor. Prospering during the land and silver booms of the 1880’s, Drummond by that time had a substantial workshop.
Drummond passed away in 1917 and his nephew Andres assumed control of the company.
