Manufactured around the early part of the 20th century, circa 1915, from rich and buttery 18ct yellow gold and hallmarked with Dawsons stamp ’S.D & Co’., this example has spent little time on the finger and shows no signs of thinning nor fading to the hallmarks.

A small size, perfect for those with petite slender fingers, however she could be resized if desired.

HISTORY OF STEWART DAWSON AND. CO.

David Stewart Dawson first founded his wholesaling business in Liverpool England around 1869.  Soon after he was suppling goods to Australia and New Zealand. By 1988 he moved to London where Stewart Dawson and Co. are described as jewellers and watch manufacturers.  His mark ‘D.S.D’ was entered in the London registry.

Trading in Australia from the 1880’s to the 1940’s, and beyond, by 1885 they were established in Swanston Street Melbourne and George Street Sydney.
Listed in Hay Street Perth in 1901 and Queen Street Brisbane in 1903.

During the 1910-1920’s Stewart Dawson advertised extensively in the original ‘Australian Womans Weekly’ and in the ‘Home’, a 1912 advertisement illustrates a 9ct gold  bar brooch set with Australian tourmalines with the “S.D. & Co.” mark (seen on this ring also).

David Stewart Dawson died in Australia in 1932 at the age of 82.  The Sydney company ceased trading in the same year.  They Victorian company conditioned to trade at 234 Collins Street until 1947  and the Perth firm until the 1960’s.

CONDITION
Very good to excellent antique condition.  A petite size but a very solid ring, thick and showing no signs of thinning.  Hallmarks are crisp and clear indicating little time on the finger.  No signs of resizing. A lovely early Australian 18ct gold band.
