Antique Australian 15ct Rose Gold And White Sapphire Ring W. J. Moore And Sons - Circa 1910
Releasing from our personal antique Australian collection this rare little ring by the Australian firm W.J. Moore and Sons.
Crafted from 15ct rose gold and hallmarked crisply with Moore and Sons trademark symbol of a ‘Maltese Cross’ and the guarantee mark used by the Manufacturing Jewellers Association of Victoria.
Designed as a low rise Daisy halo cluster and bead claw set with nine antique cut white Sapphires in millgraine edged settings. Solid shoulders flow to a thick strong plain shank.
Sitting low to the finger this quite remarkable little ring has stood the test of time and is in lovely condition.
HISTORY OF W.J. MOORE AND SONS
Founded around 1887 in Melbourne as Moore Bros and listed as operating at 162 Elizabeth Street Melbourne, W. J. Moore became sole proprietor in 1893.
William Moore was soon operating and manufacturing jewellery and by 1911 registered his trade mark, a distinctive ‘Maltese Cross’, which was used in conjunction with the guarantee marks of the M.J.A. (Manufacturing jewellers of Victoria).
From 1918 to 1942 the business was located at 340 Little Collins Street.
The firm became W.J. Moore and Sons in 1923, and by 1943 there were two family businesses operating W.J. Moore and Sons Pty Ltd and S.N. Moore and Co. Pty Ltd.
W.J. Moore and Sons retained their trade mark until 1955.
