Antique Art Deco Platinum Diamond And Ruby ‘Kookaburra’ Brooch Circa 1925

Sale price$2,450.00 AUD

Laybys welcome! Contact Us today to secure your dream piece.

Such a rare and quite exceptional piece of Art Deco jewellery dating to the Art Deco era Circa 1915.  Almost definitely Australian in manufacture however bearing no makers marks to definitively attribute, simply stamped ‘PLAT’ in the Australian manner.

As mentioned fully crafted from Platinum and modelled as our national symbol, the Kookaburra.

Aboriginal legend says that when the sun rose for the very first time the god Bayame ordered the Kookaburra to utter his loud laughter to wake up mankind so that they should not miss the wonderful sunrise.

Studded with 31 early cut diamonds throughout the body and wings and set with a single tiny Ruby for his eye, this finely executed piece of jewellery is simply stunning. Millgraine edging is used to border and add definition to throughout.  Secure roll over clasp and pin to verso.

We challenge the collector and jewellery connoisseur to find another.. we have certainly tried with no success!

CONDITION
Very very good antique condition.  All diamonds original, bright and lively, with no chips.  Minor marks seen to Platinum verso, this piece may have started its life as a stick pin? as there is, under scrutiny, evidence that  pin pitting may have been re worked, quality if so, insignificant.   Stunning rare and beautiful piece of Australiana.
