Late Georgian Early Victorian Rose-Cut or ‘Senaille’ Cut Diamond Drop Earrings
Each earring is studded with twenty eight rose-cut or more precisely ‘Senaille cut’ diamonds, each set in silver traditional of the era, with also traditional red gold wash to the fully enclosed backs.
Shepherd hook ear-wires are a replacement and are 9ct gold.
“A senaille is a simplified rose cut diamond, a small diamond chip with perhaps a few polished facets”.
With a single articulated central drop with one Senaille cut diamond that twinkles with movement, these 19th century earrings look stunning on and finding a matching pair of earrings of this quality and age is near impossible.
Hallmarked with what we firmly believe to be two French hallmarks, however they are indistinct and unfortunately we cannot concisely attribute them. The construction and style together with the positioning of the hallmarks lead us to firmly believe they are of French origin.
Each earrings measures 4cm x 2cm, and with with hooks a full 5cm in drop from ear.
Quite substantial with a combined weight of 13.27 grams.
“Gold wash to the reverse of antique jewellery was standard practice circa 1780. Applied over silver in order to protect the wearer from tarnish to their finery. This practice was common during the Georgian period”.
5cm x 2cm With hooks
4cm x 2cm Without hooks
13.27 Grams combined
Two indistinct hallmarks almost certainly French in origin.
Very good antique condition. Ear hooks would be a replacement and are 9ct gold. No issues to note
