Edwardian 9ct rose gold negligee pendant, almost certainly early Australian in manufacture.
Handcrafted in 9ct rose gold with the central circular motif featuring a centre green Tourmaline surrounded by four natural seed pearls in daisy settings to the knife-bar circular surround.
Suspended below to again knife-bar drops are a further two daisy set seed pearls below then set with two pear-cut ‘glass’ stones of vivid green to match the natural Tourmaline above.
The mix and matching of natural stones with man-made stones was much more common than one may think.
Early jewellery used what was at their disposal and they were masters at their craft.
In this exquisite piece it is fair to say the ‘glass’ pear-cuts actually are more beautiful than the natural Tourmaline!
The trace chain is also rose gold and the original push-in clasp is also marked 9c for 9ct gold.
(Wouldn’t the two drops make a wonderful pair of earrings?)
