Sale price$1,150.00 AUD

Laybys welcome! Contact Us today to secure your dream piece.
Stunning and early brooch crafted from 15ct yellow gold in Etruscan revival style and set with an array of natural Persian Turquoise cabochons.

Oval in design with ornate rope twist border and to the verso is its original removable compartment to which a photo could be added.  At present is a piece of very very gold material which we believe to be the original.

Tested via XRF and also acid tested by our jeweller to confirm 15ct gold content this gorgeous brooch bears no hallmarks to identify the maker.

However… the box it came to us in, and we believe is is almost definitely the original, is almost as gorgeous as the brooch and clearly made by Flavelle Bros - Sydney and Brisbane.

History of Flavelle Bros

The firm of Flavelle Bros was formed by John and Henry Flavelle in 1850.  Flavelle Bros commenced business art 478 George Street advertising in W. & F. Ford’s ‘Sydney Commercial Directory’ for 1851 as “Opticians, Watchmakers and Jewellers.

John Flavelle controlled the business in Sydney while Henry remained in London.  By 1856 it became Flavelle Bros and Co. and in 1869 Flavelle Bros and Roberts.

A branch had been opened in Brisbane in 1861 which in 1892 became Flavelle, Roberts and Sankey.

(Credit Australian Jewellers Gold & Silversmiths Makers & Marks - Cavill Cocks and Grace).

We believe, given the box and its Flavelle Bros logo, style etc and the information above that this piece dates to between 1861 and 1891.
