Antique Art Nouveau 15ct Yellow Gold Blue Enamel, Turquoise, ‘Pansy’ Opening Locket
Please note, boxes and chains are for display only unless otherwise stated.
A highly symbolic and beautiful Art Nouveau locket/pendant dating to the late Victorian era circa 1890-1900
The Victorians were known for expressing their sentiments through the language of flowers, and the ‘Pansy’ - (from the French ‘pensée’ translated as ‘thought’) - represented sentiments of loyalty, fond memories and loving thoughts. Blue Pansies are believed to embody honesty and loyalty.
Crafted from 15ct yellow gold and designed as an opening locket with deep royal blue enamel forming three petals of the Pansy, and two in a beautiful textured gold, with the centre highlighted by a small Turquoise cabochon.
To the rear we find a glazed opening locket compartment to hold a photo or treasured moment if desired.
Utterly romantic, oozing Art Nouveau sentimentality, this charming piece is a must for the collector.

An original? Red fabric matting is in place. Enamel is is good condition, all present, slight loss of glaze to one small area top right Pansy leaf, this is top glaze only not the actual enamel, hard to see, noting for accuracy.
