Addendum
Purchased as gold cased from major Australian auction house, due to Victorian lockdowns we accepted this as valid.  Upon recent XRF testing, the seal has tested as 14ct gold.  The split ring is pinchbeck or similar.

Colonial Australian family crest belonging to the Cox family, either for Edward Standish Esquire of Fernside Rylstone NSW or the Hon. George Henry, J.P. of Winburn, Member of the Legislative Council.

The intaglio seal has been XRF tested as 14ct yellow gold of scrolling baroque style and set with the Cox family intaglio carved in Bloodstone of a ‘Griffins head erased. pierced though the neck with an arrow and beneath, the Motto, ‘Fortitude in Adversis’ (Strength in Adversity).

Dating to we believe the the mid Victorian era, perhaps earlier, this handsome and large early piece of Australian colonial history with provenance stand an impressive 3.6cm and with original large split ring 4.6cm.

Beautifully carved and modelled and heavy at 19.10 grams this is a true collectors piece, however it is as wearable today as it was over 150 years ago.
