Quite a rare example given the hallmarks, of an early Australian wedding band attributed to Robert Robertson.

**Given Robertson's Scottish background, and copying Glasgow's hallmarks of the Thistle and (sometimes Lion Rampant), adds weight to the attribution of this mark to Robert Robertson

With quite extensive research we have found pieces with similar hallmarks bearing the ’Thistle’ attributed to Robert Robertson. With the addition of the Manufacturing Jewellers Association of Victorias guarantee mark of the ‘Sailing Ship’ for 18ct gold given provenance to its early Australian heritage.

Measuring 5mm in width, and very comfortable to wear, this rare example is a must for any serious Colonial Australian jewellery collector.

History of Robert Robertson

Robert Robertson was born in Cupar, Fife in 1820 and migrated to Australia in 1852, starting a jewellery business in Collins Street in 1854, and later moving to Little Collins Street.
